Advent Calendar Day One is here!!!
One more year, I’m starting a count down to Christmas for my kids, one drawing at a time. Every morning they wake up to find one illustration and a treat. This is the fifth year, and it has become a tradition at home. A countdown to Halloween was suggested by the youngest and ignored by me (ehem, enough candy already!). There is always a theme or a narrative threaded in and that’s a challenge each time, as they are 6 years apart. But there lies the fun too! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Homenaje a Cristina García Rodero

My illustration for Andreas’ Abril short story for No me cuentes cuentos on Cristina García Rodero, great photographer, and one of the few women at Magnum Photos Agency. I remember her from my days as a BFA student, an accesible teacher and an inspiration to all, so proud to do her portrait!!. No me cuentes cuentos Is a project by Prodigioso Volcán and the newsletter Kloshletter, their goal is that kids can learn about many great Spanish women, of course grownups can enjoy too!

Advent Calendar – Day 25

GEOMETRY – Geometry is everywhere in the Universe, and in our everyday life. From the mandalas kids color, to the grains of salt we put in our food and everything in between. This illustration presents the last letter of this Advent Calendar/Alphabet, and it’s a very special one, because it shows the planning behind this personal project. In the past days, since December 1, I’ve illustrated a series of concepts I wanted my kids to think about. It has been a fun research project, that I started a long time ago, and now I had the opportunity to accomplish. To work with the meaning, origin and versatility of words, looking for the symmetry with another language, and get my 6-years-apart kids to understand it has been a real challenge, but totally worth it. Hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as we have. Merry Christmas to all!

Advent Calendar – Day 24

To the left, to the right, to the left to the right… we spend our life zigzaging, shifting our weight to one side and then to the other as we walk.
